Internships

Positions available for Social Work, Education, Psychology, Management or Communications majors.  These internships are part-time, volunteer, unpaid.  Office hours are scheduled, however, they are flexible to meet your needs and the needs of the organization.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Program, Non-profit Marketing, Publicity, Research, and/or Non-profit management

Public Relations/Community Relations:

The public relations intern will be asked to assist in the efforts to increase community visibility by designing and implementing strategies to increase community awareness, as well as, develop weekly press releases and other recruitment ads as needed.

Responsibilities:
Participation to a limited degree in the following activities:
· Maintain notebook of activities
· Develop a schedule to send out press releases, linked to BBBS activities
· Maintain specials and stories pages on BBBSMR web site
· Write newspaper and radio releases

Education, Experience, Skill Required:

Qualifications: Enrollment in college undergraduate/graduate program
Good writing and phone skills
Good organizational skills

Program Coordinator Intern:

The Intern Case Manager is responsible for learning of BBBS Service Delivery Program by assisting Program Coordinator with responsibilities.  Intern program coordinator, includes but is not limited to referrals, inquiry/orientation, intake, assessment, eligibility determination, match recommendation, matching, supervision, closure, record keeping, maintenance of confidential records, and referrals.

Intern case management hours are flexible and scheduled to maximize intern’s ability to meet the needs of the clients and to provide the highest quality of service delivery. 

Responsibilities:
Participation to a limited degree in the following activities:
· Facilitate parent and volunteer inquiries
· Conduct parent, child, volunteer orientation, intake, and assessment, including but not limited to interviews, follow-up references, background checks, gathering collateral information, written documentation to support eligibility determination.
· Contact and interview with referral sources for volunteers
· Contact, interview, maintain referral sources for clients
· Make recommendation for final determination of acceptance/rejection to Case Manager
· Facilitate match relationship by providing support and mediation when necessary, including communication with collateral support
· Document all contacts and supervision
· Provide referrals to other social service agencies as appropriate
· Remain current with the developments within BBBSA
· Maintain relationships with area school officials to assist with in-school programs
· Communicate and interpret program services to other agencies in the community

Other Duties:
· Represent agency at volunteer fairs, and like gatherings
· Assist with recruitment of volunteers and outreach of clients
· Intern Case Manager assists with recruitment/outreach and program development, and public relations
· Other duties as necessary

Professional Development:
Participate in BBBSA training and other professional development training, as appropriate

Education, Experience, Skill Required:
Qualifications: Enrollment in college undergraduate/graduate program
One year experience in youth service or educational institution involving direct client service, project management, and communication skills
Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
Successful completion of criminal/driver check

Work Study/Student Workers Fellowship Positions

These positions are available for Keene State College students by participating in the work-study fellowship positions through the KSC Community Service office, Mary McEntee [mmcentee@keene.edu].  Students wanting to participate in this program need to make sure that they are work-study eligible (information available at Financial Aid Office), and they need to complete an application with Community Service Office.  Big Brothers Big Sisters pays 35% of this wage of $5.50 hourly
Students Workers (not eligible for work study) also must contact Mary McEntee at KSC Community Service office, again the wage is $5.50.  BBBS pays 100% of this wage.

Job Description:
Position Summary:  The Community Relations Work Study Fellow is responsible for assisting Executive Director in Public Relations, Marketing, Volunteer Recruiting and Fund Development activities for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Monadnock Region, Inc.

Reports to:  Community Relations Work Study Fellow reports to the Executive Director, coordinates activities with any other communications or marketing

Public Relations
         Assist Executive Director to coordinate pubic relations activities including:

  • Publicity
  • Radio and other media campaigns

         Develop and coordinate public speaking engagements

 Fund Development

         Assist Executive Director to develop the feasibility of various fund development activities
         Assist Executive Director Coordinate the functions of Fund Development Event Based activities
         Member of Fund Development Committee, Board of Directors

Volunteer Recruiting
         Assist Program Director with volunteer recruiting, Bigs and other Agency Volunteers
         Assist with establishing activities to coordinate
         Coordinates community relations’ activities with Program Director and staff.

 Marketing
         Assist with development of marketing communication materials
         Staff liaison to Public Relations and Marketing Committee, Board of Directors
         Assist with updating and maintaining databases on all fundraising personnel and donations
         Assist with paper and e-mail newsletter composition and mailing.

Professional Development:
         Attends professional development seminars and workshops as availability and budget allows.

Education, Experience Skill Required:
         Keene State College Student
         Computer and other office machine skills
         Familiar with marketing communications and media relations
         Excellent verbal and written skills
         Complete criminal and driver check

Service Learning

The Service Learning Link between KSC and Big Brothers Big Sisters is now well established.  BBBS has provided a laboratory for students in Communication Professor, Joan Donnelly’s class Crisis Management, exploring risk management by developing Crisis Management Plan for the Agency to utilize.  It provided very useful to better establish computer security.

In the Women’s Studies Program, BBBS is working with KSC Senior Marty Barnard to create a curriculum for Big Sisters Little Sisters, grades 5 through 7th, to better understand the wide range of “Becoming a Woman” issues.

Sociology Student, Senior Karl Wobrock volunteered first to be a Big Brother, and then worked as an intern, supervised by his advisor, Professor Peggy Walsh.   He completed important market research to measure the relationship of the Agency with the neighboring schools and after school programs that BBBS works closely with.

AmeriCorpsVISTA

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Monadnock Region hosts one VISTA member annually starting in August.   This VISTA member is responsible for helping to build the capacity and enhance the BBBS Site-Based (after school) Program.   The VISTA identifies recruiting opportunities for Bigs at regional colleges and high schools.  H/she are be responsible for assisting with recruiting and interviewing volunteers, organizing a variety of marketing communication tools prepared by BBBS and drafting new materials as appropriate, and orienting potential volunteers to the BBBS program.  The VISTA member is also have the responsibility to identify grants and foundations appropriate for Site-Based mentoring, as well as the utilize school communities to build a signature fundraising events.   If you are interested in this position, please contact Executive Director Peg Monahan, pmonahan@bbbsmr.org. or 603-352-9536, ext.101.
